As an expert witness in HKA’s Independent Consulting Expert network, you can expect:

The Opportunity:

HKA has developed a network of over 400 expert witnesses working as independent consultants covering a broad spectrum of engineering and technical matters. We are looking to continue this development and have excellent opportunities for highly experienced technical experts to join this network. Your work would be undertaken remotely on an ‘as and when’ basis under a sub-consultancy agreement, thus allowing you to continue with your own commitments and projects.

We are currently looking to engage with individuals who possess knowledge in the following areas:

• Experience in EHV and HV power transmission and distribution system design, planning and installation.
• Experience of grid connection studies, power system studies/modelling and other relevant modelling, Such as load flow and fault level analysis, protection coordination, load related network reinforcement, demand forecasting, voltage stability etc.
• Understanding of UK and/or international technical standards, codes and regulations associated with the electricity transmission system.
• Have a track record leading on major electrical transmission and distribution network projects.
• Summarising the results of all analytical studies and preparation of technical reports.

Advantageous to have:

• Experience failure investigation and troubleshooting.
• Experience of disputes and dispute resolution.
• Experience of electrical transmission systems and associated infrastructure associated with solar PV and onshore and offshore Wind.
• Experience across voltage levels from LV to EHV and HVDC.
• Experience working as a design engineer/manager for a DNO in EHV systems or HV/LV systems.

Qualifications and Experience:

Ideally you possess the following skills and experience:

• Minimum of 25 years’ experience in the field.
• BEng, MSc, or equivalent level.
• Professional qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in writing reports.

Advantageous to have:

• Experience in writing expert reports.
• Expert witness experience.
• Experience working internationally.
• Membership of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or similar.
• Chartered Engineer.
